Sizing — choose the right scale
Aura Studio Sizing Guide
Choosing the right size for your Aura piece is integral to creating a harmonious space that reflects your aesthetic. We recommend a few guiding principles to ensure your art complements your furniture and overall interior design.
The 60–80% Furniture-Width Rule
A general rule of thumb is to select artwork that occupies 60% to 80% of the width of the furniture it’s displayed above. This creates a balanced appearance, allowing the piece to resonate with its surroundings without overwhelming them. For instance, if you have a sideboard that is 120cm wide, your art should ideally be between 72cm and 96cm wide. This principle enhances the visual cohesion of your space.
Bed Wall Sizing and Headboard Matching
When selecting art for a bedroom, consider matching the width of the artwork to that of your headboard. If your headboard spans 140cm, choose a piece that is similarly proportioned. This approach brings a sense of unity to the room, framing the bed as a focal point while adding depth and mood.
Fireplace Mantel Considerations
Art above a fireplace mantel should ideally be placed within 30cm of the ceiling for optimal visual impact. Consider the height of your mantel; if it’s 120cm from the ground, your artwork should ideally be situated at approximately 150cm to 180cm. This positioning creates a captivating interaction between the art and the architectural features of your home.
Corridor and Hallway Considerations
In corridors or hallways, consider the flow of movement. Artwork should be hung at eye level, which is typically between 145cm and 165cm from the floor. This ensures that the art is easily appreciated while allowing the passage to remain uncluttered. Consider pairing smaller pieces to create a gallery wall effect, drawing the eye along the corridor.
The Influence of Ceiling Height
Ceiling height plays a crucial role in selecting artwork size. In spaces with high ceilings, larger pieces can enhance the verticality of the room, while lower ceilings may benefit from narrower, elongated works. The key is to maintain a sense of proportion; the art should not feel dwarfed or too imposing in relation to the room's height.
Dual-Piece Pairings
For a more dynamic display, consider dual-piece pairings. These can create a balanced yet intriguing arrangement. When selecting two pieces, ensure they harmonise in both colour and theme. A pair of medium-sized pieces can effectively fill a larger wall space, while still adhering to the 60–80% width rule relative to the furniture below.
